Courtyard House.
Status: Planning.
This single storey rear extension presents a carefully considered contemporary addition to a traditional period property within a conservation area. The design adopts a lightweight timber frame paired with expansive glazing, creating a clear architectural distinction between old and new while remaining sympathetic to the existing building.
The extension is set behind an existing masonry wall, preserving the visual dominance of the original structure and respecting the established heritage setting.
A key feature is the use of full-height glazed panels framed in natural timber, which provide strong visual permeability between interior and exterior spaces. This transparency enhances natural daylight within the extension and establishes a direct connection to the garden, softening the transition between built form and landscape.
