Hawthorn House.

Status: Building Regulations (Planning Approved).

This project involves the redesign and extension of an existing residential property in south Manchester, creating a more connected and adaptable family home. While the property already benefited from good access to the garden, the existing ground floor arrangement limited the flow and relationship between the principal living spaces.

The proposals introduce a more open-plan layout, carefully considered around how the clients wanted to use their home. A brighter and more welcoming living environment is created through the reorganisation of the ground floor, with large bi-fold doors opening the rear elevation and allowing the garden to become a natural extension of the internal living spaces.

A double storey side extension provides additional flexibility at first floor, allowing the existing bedrooms to be reconfigured alongside the creation of a larger family bathroom and master bedroom en-suite. The design also considers future adaptability, with the layout developed to accommodate a potential loft conversion should the clients choose to extend the property further.

A key element of the project is the creation of a home that can evolve over time, balancing immediate improvements to the way the family lives with the potential for future change.
